| The iconic Empire State Building standing tall and proud |
The iconic Empire StateBuilding, situated at the heart of New York City, is one of the most-photographed landmarks in the world. The once tallest building in the world has appeared in over 250 movies including The Amazing Spider-Man, An Affair to Remember, King Kong and Independence Day to name a few.
The Empire State Building is located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and West 34th Street. It stands 1,454 feet tall and is currently the 9th tallest building in the world and the 4th tallest freestanding structure in the Americas. It got its name from New York’s nickname – the Empire State. It has 102 stories, and was the first building to ever have more than 100 stories. It was also named the 7th wonder of the world by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Empire State Building has attracted 120 million people to its observatories.
The Empire State Building construction was completed in 1931, in the middle of the Great Depression in New York City. At the time, the Empire State Building held the title as the tallest building in the world. The construction involved 3,400 workers, mostly European immigrants, and hundreds of Mohawk iron workers. The first use of the lights at the top of the Empire State Building was to signal to New Yorkers that President Franklin Roosevelt had won the 1932 Presidential election.
